In this episode of the MWI podcast, Capt. Jake Miraldi speaks with four guests about writing and its usefulness as a tool for both storytelling and making sense of and creating order from complex issues related to war. The guests on this episode are:

Phil Klay, author of Redeployment
August Cole, co-author of Ghost Fleet
Matt Gallagher, author of Youngblood
Nate Finney, editor of the Strategy Bridge

With three fiction writers among the participants, the conversation touched on the value of this genre to contextualize our thinking about war. Short stories, novels, and other works of fiction can help to refine our sense of the unique challenges that future wars might bring, for example. They can also help both writers and readers to organize complex thoughts and emotions about their own experiences at war.
