Capt. Sam Lowell is an instructor in the Department of Chemistry and Life Science and teaches the general chemistry course. After earning a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the United States Military Academy in 2014, he commissioned as an aviation officer and earned a post-graduate research scholarship to attend Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). At NPS, he earned his master’s in mechanical engineering in 2015 and completed a thesis in additive manufacturing. Following flight school, where he earned his qualification as a pilot in the UH-60M helicopter, Capt. Lowell served as a platoon leader, liaison officer, and assistant operations officer with 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. While with the 101st, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Capt. Lowell served as the company commander of Company C, 2-210th Aviation Regiment at Fort Eustis, Virginia. While in command, he supervised more than sixty non-commissioned officers and oversaw the administration of advanced individual training to more than six hundred initial entry training soldiers per year.
