The US Army War College recently hosted its twenty-ninth annual Strategy Conference. This year, the conference’s theme was “Strategic Leadership 2030: Transcending Challenges in a Time of Deep Change.” Speaking on a panel about what it will mean to be an effective leader in the future, MWI Non-Resident Fellow Maj. ML Cavanaugh discussed the key characteristics of great military leaders historically—especially, superior judgment—and how those characteristics will apply in a changing world and with changes in the character of warfare. It’s an important and fascinating exploration of the essential core components of leadership.

You can watch Cavanaugh’s remarks below. Retired US Air Force Maj. Gen. Charles Dunlap has also posted a transcript of the remarks at his website, Lawfire.
